The Sixth National God & Sexuality Conference
“Ritual Practice and Sexual Expression”
April 9th and 10th, 2006
New York
CALL FOR PAPERS & PRESENTATIONS
The God & Sexuality Conference is seeking academic papers and seminar presentation
proposals that will focus on Ritual and Sexuality and Gender. The conference will provide a platform for the examination and experience of the place of ritual in the appropriation and contestation of sexual meanings. This, the sixth God & Sexuality Conference (GSC) continues its tradition of combining the student leadership, scholarly presentations and community participation to explore an arena of contested meanings and practices today: ritual and human sexuality.
The conference will provide three tracks, from which participants will be able to select
presentations, workshops and roundtables:
* Same-sex marriage
* Women and gender in ceremonial roles and rituals
* Sexual expression in ritual
Papers should be academic in nature and focus on what is outlined above.
Workshops, roundtables, and Panels may incorporate academic as well as nonacademic participants.
Brief Proposals should be sent to gsc@bard.edu for consideration by the conference committee.
The God and Sexuality Conference is a unique event, combining academic presentations and workshop style sessions in a two-day conference of scholars, students, and lay-people. The conference finds its home at Bard College in upstate New York, and is co-sponsored by Out & Faithful, Union Theological Seminary , and others. It is distinct as a student initiated conference for those interested in issues of religion, sexuality and gender.
Modest Honorariums are available to both academic presenters and some workshop
leaders.
